National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) is a cross-disability, non-profit organization, working as an interface between the government, industry, international agencies, and the voluntary sector towards the empowerment of persons with disabilities. The School of Law will be hosting Programme Associate, Mr. Akshay Jain from the Centre to enlighten and introduce our students to the development and future of empowerment of persons with disabilities in India. The guest talk will be held on 21st April, 2023 in the Central Block Auditorium. 


Speaker Profile:

Mr. Akshay Jain currently works as a Programme Associate at the National Centre for the Promotion of Employment for Disabled People. As a lawyer, sir has worked with various civil society organizations in the development sector, in particular the disability sector. Akshay works on Employment, Law/Policy, Accessibility, Legal Aid, etc. around disability. His vision of an ideal environment for people with disabilities is an inclusive setup based on the principles of universal design where the effect of laws is directly reflected through implementation.

Mr. Akshay is a passionate believer that social change can be brought about by empowering and educating the youth. And, most importantly, he affirms that disability rights are not a subject that is confined to a particular community. The challenges people with disabilities face cut across age, caste, gender, and socio and economic group to lead a change in society, and he maintains that we need to have an inclusive and holistic approach. Sir is also the founder of Centre for the Rights of Differently Abled at Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad, a research-based focused Centre working on disability rights. He has a keen interest in disability laws and their implementation about which he has written and spoken on various national and international platforms. In his leisure time, he likes to read, and watch movies and is fond of theatre dramas. He, himself, has acted in and directed a number of theatre dramas during his undergraduate programme.
