1 Performance and Perception of Students: Tracing The Missing Thread in Education Discussions The working paper was an attempt to relate the performance of students in engineering colleges in Kerala to their previous education and their perception about the places where they studied. The perception of the students in select dimensions was compared across geographic regions and syllabus. Working Paper CSSEIP, Cochin University of Science and Technology
2 Intake Capacity and Inclusiveness of Technical Education Sector in Kerala The work details the growth of technical education in Kerala. Capacity constraints in the technical education sector in Kerala, with special reference to engineering education are discussed. The consequent impact of capacity constraints are brought out and discussed in the paper. Working Paper CSSEIP, Cochin University of Science and Technology
3 Professional Course Entrance Examination in Kerala: Exclusion in a Community –Gender Mirror The work analyses the engineering admissions in the state of Kerala over a period of 5 years and discusses the gender dimension in engineering admissions. While the aggregate admission numbers do not reveal any gender disparity, the disaggregated analysis clearly espouses concern from many corners about engineering being a male dominated course. Working Paper CSSEIP, Cochin University of Science and Technology
4 Blue Gold Vs. Grey Gold The case depicts the situation faced by a company operating in an industry considered hazardous to the environment. The company has been supplying treated water free of cost to the local public. The objective of this service was to provide pure water to the public for cooking and drinking purposes. But the public uses the water supplied for other purposes as well and some even use underground tanks for collecting more water than what is required for them, resulting in non-availability of water to others. The fast depletion of ground water resources on which the company depends presently for its operations, and the expected rise in the cost of water supply once the desalination plant (the only alternative source of water for KMML) is commissioned, demands judicious use of water provided by the company to the public. But there seems to be no actionable suggestions available to the company in ensuring this. Penalizing those people who misuse the water supplied can only be done by disrupting the water supply completely and hence cannot be implemented as that might invoke the wrath of the public and may also make KMML an easy target to the onslaught from the ever-belligerent NGOs on the grounds that KMML has been the cause of ground water depletion.
