International Symposium on Current Trends in Research and Innovation (ISCTRI 2020)

International Symposium on Current Trends in Research and Innovation (ISCTRI’20) was organized by the Department of Computer Science, Christ (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa campus on technical association with Computer Society of India (CSI) on 25th July 2020. The event was open to the public and 296 participants attended the event. The symposium focused on topics related to recent trends in research as well as innovation related to data and analytics. Guest speakers included Dr Pradeep Rathi, Vice President, Maharashtra and Goa Region, CSI and Dr Guydeuk Yeon, Director of Innovation Centre, Christ University, Bangalore along with 3 resource speakers.

The event officially commenced with the welcome address by Dr Samiksha Shukla, HOD, Dept of Data Science, Christ (Deemed to be University, Pune Lavasa campus followed by the inaugural address by Dr.Fr. Arun Anthony (Academic Coordinator, Christ Lavasa campus. Insightful talks were delivered by the chief guests regarding the importance of data and innovation.

The First session was a presentation by Mr Kothandaraman Sridharan on “Data Value: from College to Cooperate”. He explained how to overpower the data which misleads us and the necessity of AI and Data Science. The main take away of his talk was how will you filter and get the best essence of data and how to grab the golden opportunity. The session was moderated by Ms Vaishali Vairale.

The second session was by Dr Iven Jose, Professor of Christ (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, on the topic “Systematic Approach of Learning Analytics: The next generation transformative pedagogy”. His talk was moderated by Mr Nibir Kumar Paul. He explained the project E-SAIL which is a group of students and institutions that work with real-time projects towards societal needs.

The final talk was delivered by Mr Ajith Suresh, a graduate in CSE technology and research scholar from the Indian Institute of Science (IISC). He delivered a very interesting presentation on the topic “Secure Multi-Party Computation meets ML”. Being a research scholar on the topic of Cryptography, he mainly focused on the data privacy and security part and how it can be implemented in machine learning. Ms Aishika Banik took the role of moderator for the session.

An outline of the event was provided by Dr Sumithra Binu (Dept of Data Science) where she mentioned all the speakers and a gist of their respective deliverance.

The concluding remarks were delivered by Fr. Jossy P George (Director and Dean, Christ Deemed to be University, Pune Lavasa campus) and Mr Akhil M Nair (Dept of Data Science) proposed the word of gratitude to all the guest speakers, resource persons, faculty members, staffs and attendees of the symposium for the smooth conduction of the event.

The symposium held in association with CSI was an enriching experience that brought academic fraternity as well as researchers together to share their thoughts and ideas on the topic of innovation and research in the field of data science among a variety of audiences from diverse domains.
