     Event Details

The Department of Data Sciences will be organizing a session called INCLUSIVERSE (Beyond Differences), for all students and faculty members of the university. The session will be held from June 2–5 in the auditorium at Central Block. The session will be facilitated by Prof. Avichal Sharma of the Department of Data Sciences, who is also an active member of Special Olympics Bharat and has participated in several of their national tournaments in recent years.

The session focuses on the need for inclusiveness in society and the scope of unified sports. Unified Sports brings together people with and without intellectual disabilities, to train and compete as teammates. Unified Sports helps athletes improve physical fitness, sharpen skills, challenge and compete, and have fun in a variety of sports ranging from basketball to golf to figure skating. It helps foster bonding between players on and off the field. Unified sports are considered a strong and effective tool for promoting inclusion. In unified sports, teams are made up of people of similar ages and abilities. That makes practices more fun and games more challenging and exciting for all. Having sports in common is just one more way that preconceptions and false ideas are swept away.

Further, the pioneer organization, Special Olympics Bharat, working to achieve this motive, shall be introduced. Special Olympics Bharat is a charitable trust registered under the Indian Trust Act 1882 that uses sports as a catalyst to transform the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences. Unified sports put people with and without intellectual disabilities on the same team. It was inspired by a simple principle: training together and playing together is a quick path to friendship and understanding.

By means of this session, the students who shall be the future of India shall develop a sense of inclusiveness and aim to build an inclusive society. Also, exposure to unified sports will help them upgrade their career and passion for sports for a better cause.
