Philosophy of Business' - certificate course

Certificate Course: ‘Philosophy of Business’

To create anything big and sustainable it is important to have a strong philosophical foundation. Business is no exceptions to this principal. Business models are a result of philosophy of the given business.

In the wake of economic crises, an era of severe turbulence, rapid changes and increasing complexity has emerged. A black cloud hangs over the past decade’s economic prosperity and global consumption habits, which fundamentally challenges the purpose of business. All too often the approach to business practices has been one-dimensional, lacking in richness and depth

In these times, it is important to be able to view the world in different shades – one of possibilities, rather than constraints. While the discipline of philosophy can help pave the way forward, it remains to be widely regarded as irrelevant to formal education programs in business schools. But they might think differently, if they take a closer look.

“Once hired, philosophy majors advance more rapidly than their colleagues who possess only business degrees” writes Thomas Hurka, Professor of Philosophy at the University of Calgary. He strongly advises the younger generation to study philosophy, if they want to be successful in business.

This 20 hours course consists of three units;

Unit 1 (3 hours) students will become aware of philosophy and different school of thoughts prevalent in West and East.

Unit 2 (7 hours) will cover in depth three major schools of thoughts, two extremes i.e. capitalism- socialism and one middle path which is working for the ‘Good’ of the largest possible population.

In Unit 3(10 hours) students will learn the impact of these philosophies in creating the business models and operating this business in different economies.

Learning will happen by using relevant cases, movies and documentaries along with the learning material in form of PPT’s, articles  and e-book’s which will be shared during the course.
