Online lecture series titled “Migration, Memory, and Performance: Challenging Dominant Narratives and Power Structures”
Date & Time: 8 to 10 September 2025, 9.00 to 9.50 am
Venue: Online Mode
The Department of English and Cultural Studies is organising an online lecture series titled “Migration, Memory, and Performance: Challenging Dominant Narratives and Power Structures” from 8–10 September 2025, 9:00 – 9:50 A.M. IST. The talks critically engage with the intersections of migration, memory, and performance as modes of interrogating and unsettling dominant epistemologies and hegemonic frameworks. Memory, both individual and collective, emerges as a contested terrain where practices of remembering and forgetting are deeply entangled with structures of power. Performance, in turn, becomes a critical medium through which these negotiations are embodied, represented, and resisted. Bringing together diverse disciplinary perspectives, the series foregrounds how cultural production, embodied practices, and artistic interventions challenge normative narratives and articulate counter-histories. The keynote speakers include: Dr. Avishek Parui and Dr. Merin Simi Raj (IIT Madras), Dr. Robin Field (King’s College), and Dr. Frederico Dinis (Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo). By emphasising marginalised voices and lived experiences, the talks will highlight the capacity of performance and memory to reframe migration beyond paradigms of crisis, envisioning it instead as a site of resilience, creativity, and transformative political possibility.
