The Seminar on “A Literary Introduction to Refugee Studies” organized by the Department of English and Cultural Studies in collaboration with the Centre for Peace Praxis will introduce learners to ‘refugees’ while also clarifying what differentiates them from other displaced groups like ‘migrants’ and ‘asylum seekers’. International Conventions on Refugee Protection and noteworthy amendments will be discussed. A blend of literary texts from different genres will be used to familiarize learners with the current refugee crisis. The seminar will equip learners to understand the complexities of forced displacement and refugeehood through critical refugee studies. Reading refugee narratives across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries will provide a solid introduction to refugee studies and help learners garner crucial insights into the lived realities of refugee populations.
