Mathematics of Ecology: Predicting Collapse and Resilience
The Department of Statistics and Data Science, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, is organising the next session of the Mathematics for Planet Earth Online Lecture Series, titled “Mathematics of Ecology: Predicting Collapse and Resilience”, on 17th September 2026, from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM IST.
The session will be delivered by Prof. Vishwesha Guttal, Professor at the Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. The lecture will explore how mathematical ideas and models can help us understand ecological systems, anticipate critical transitions, and study ecological collapse and resilience.
The Mathematics for Planet Earth lecture series aims to spark curiosity among students, faculty members, and mathematics enthusiasts by showcasing how mathematics helps us understand the world around us. Through this session, participants will gain a glimpse into the fascinating intersection of mathematics and ecology and the role mathematical thinking can play in understanding complex environmental systems.
