The Department of English and Cultural Studies is organising “Democracy and Education: From Article 15 to Martha Nussbaum — Celebrating International Day of Democracy,” a two-day constitutional awareness session focusing on equality, social justice, constitutional values, and inclusive education. Scheduled for 12th and 15th September in Room No. 2318, Management Block, the programme brings together cinema, philosophy, and critical pedagogy to foster awareness of constitutional principles and democratic citizenship.

The screening of Article 15 will engage participants with caste-based discrimination, social inequality, and the constitutional promise of equality. A post-screening discussion, conducted through the Gender and Society through Digital Media course, will draw on key gender concepts to critically examine the intersections of caste, gender, discrimination, representation, and social justice portrayed in the film.

The session on Martha Nussbaum’s philosophy will explore how humanities education nurtures critical thinking, empathy, human dignity, and democratic citizenship, while highlighting its relevance to SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
