The Department of Statistics & Data Science, School of Sciences, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Pune Lavasa Campus, is pleased to invite students and faculty to a guest lecture on "Fiscal Decentralization in India," organized under the course ECO201-3L (Public Finance) on 1st October 2026, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Seminar Hall, Management Block. The session will be delivered by Prof. Hari Kurup K K, Advisor to the 7th State Finance Commission, Government of Kerala, who brings rich expertise in public finance and fiscal policy at both state and local government levels. The lecture will explore how fiscal powers, responsibilities, and resources are distributed across different tiers of government in India, and examine the critical role of Finance Commissions in shaping intergovernmental fiscal relations and strengthening grassroots governance. Students will gain valuable insights into the practical and policy dimensions of fiscal decentralization, along with an opportunity to interact with an experienced practitioner during the Q&A.
