Storytelling Carnival
The Department of English and Cultural Studies, in collaboration with CAPS, is organising a Storytelling Carnival to celebrate the rich storytelling legacy of R. K. Narayan, whose writings transformed the rhythms of everyday life into memorable narratives.
Drawing inspiration from Narayan’s ability to discover stories in ordinary people, places, objects, and experiences, the event invites participants to explore the storyteller within themselves. Each participant is encouraged to bring an object or an image and use it as the starting point for a story. The narrative may emerge from a personal memory, an imagined world, a forgotten experience, or an entirely fictional encounter.
Designed as a semi-formal and interactive gathering, the carnival seeks to create a space where storytelling moves beyond the written word and becomes a shared experience of imagination, memory, observation, and expression.
Through this celebration, the event hopes to revisit the simplicity, warmth, and human connection that remain central to R. K. Narayan’s storytelling tradition.
