The Department of English is pleased to announce a workshop on “Basics of Text Encoding Initiative (TEI)” to be conducted by Julia Flanders, Director of the Women Writers Project, and Sarah Connell, Associate Director of Women Writers Project,at Northeastern University**.
This workshop will introduce the students of Masters in English with Digital Humanities to the foundational principles of TEI, an internationally recognized standard for encoding and representing texts in digital form. TEI plays a crucial role in archival research, enabling scholars to create structured, searchable, and interoperable digital editions of manuscripts, rare books, and historical documents. By learning TEI, researchers enhance digital preservation practices, improve metadata accuracy, and facilitate collaborative scholarship across institutions.
The session will combine conceptual discussions with hands-on demonstrations, equipping the students with practical skills for digital humanities projects and archival documentation aligned with contemporary research methodologies.
