Honoured with Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Maharashtra Bhushan and a string of national awards and Honorary Doctorates, Dr. Vijay Bhatkar is best known as the architect of India's first Supercomputer 'PARAM' and several pioneering contributions to Information Technology in India. He completed his Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in 1972, where he was acclaimed as its Distinguished Alumni and went on to become Chairman of its Governing Council. Dr. Vijay Bhatkar has also served as Chancellor of Nalanda University.
Currently, he is a Member NSM, Chairman of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (Government of India), Chairman NSM C-DAC-TAC, Chairman of the Steering Group for HPC-based Quantum Accelerators, and Mentor of Vijnana Bharati — actively guiding India's national initiatives in Science, Technology, Arts and Humanities.
