Republic Day

Republic Day at Christ (Deemed to be University), Lavasa, is not just another date on the calendar. It’s a day that brings the entire campus together to celebrate what it means to be part of India. The excitement starts building days before the 26th, with students discussing what they’ll wear and how they’ll participate. Early on Republic Day morning, you’ll see people heading towards the main lawn, some in traditional wear, others fastening paper flags onto their clothes, and everyone in a cheerful mood. There’s something about seeing classmates and teachers gathered together, waiting for the flag to be hoisted, that fills the air with pride.

When the flag goes up and everyone stands at attention to sing the national anthem, it’s hard not to get a little emotional. For those few minutes, all the usual worries about exams or assignments seem to fade away, and you’re simply grateful to be part of something larger. The Student Welfare Office in collaboration with National Cadet Corps (NCC)  ensures that the event runs smoothly, allowing everyone to focus on the day's true meaning.

After the anthem, people settle in to listen to the speeches. They aren’t just boring recitations of history; instead, the speakers try to connect the spirit of the Constitution to our lives today. Some of the best talks come from fellow students, sharing stories of their homes, their grandparents’ memories of India, or how proud they feel to be part of a community that stands for unity and progress. It’s inspiring to hear how different everyone’s backgrounds are, yet how much everyone appreciates the freedoms and opportunities they have.

The cultural part of Republic Day is always a highlight. Dance performances are showing off folk music from around the country, kids reading patriotic poems, and sometimes even a group song where everyone can join in. The decorations are made by students too-rangoli in the colors of the flag, handmade posters, and colorful streamers. It transforms the whole campus and makes the atmosphere feel festive.

Before the event ends, the whole crowd is invited to stand together and take a community pledge. It isn’t just about being a good student or a good citizen, but about respecting each other, working for a better future, and remembering the sacrifices our ancestors made. As the sun starts to set and everyone heads home, there’s a quiet happiness and unity that stays with you.

Republic Day at Christ Lavasa is so special because it goes beyond just honoring a national event; it becomes a day for students, teachers, and staff to feel connected as a family, to celebrate what India stands for, and to take pride in being part of something meaningful. Every January 26th, we are reminded that we are all a piece of India’s big, colorful story.
